The Power of the Kettlebell

March 6, 2010

Over the last decade or so, the kettlebell has become a very popular tool in the fitness industry.  In that way, the kettlebell is not unlike a lot of the popular fads that have besieged the fitness industry over the last 100 years.  We have all seen the strange and bizarre contraptions that have come and gone and will continue to come and go as long as people are looking for the next best thing out there promising to quick results with little effort.

The difference between the kettlebell and all these other pieces of workout equipment is that the kettlebell is not new.  It has been around for more then 200 years and has proven itself an effective workout tool over and over and over again.

Over 200 years ago, the kettlebell started out as a workout tool in Russia.  It made it’s way west around the time of the American Civil War but didn’t catch on amount the average fitness buff until about a decade ago.  It is now, in my opinion here to stay.

A kettlebell is nothing more then a round iron weight with a handle attached to it.  This unique, compact design makes it extremely user friendly, portable and versatile.  A kettlebell can be taken and used anywhere, it is simple to use in that it only requires you to learn a couple of exercises in order to be effective, but offers the ability to target the body from every imaginable angle.

A kettlebell workout is a workout like no other.

Kettlebells are used the world over by elite athletes from every corner of the athletic spectrum as well as elite special forces teams and police departments.  These people all have one thing in common, they want results and the kettlebell delivers.

If you are looking for something to jump start your routine or you are interested in adding a different element to what you are already doing, give the kettlebell a try for 30 days and experience results like you have never before experienced.

Choosing a Dartboard Cabinet

February 8, 2010

The game of darts has been around since medieval England.  Back in the day, one way that arches were taught to be more accurate with their arrows was to break them in half and throw them at barrels  that had been turned on their sides.  These same archers, needing a break from their training would eventually do what all good Englishmen to and head to the local pub for a cold one.  They would bring their broken arrows (no, not nukes) and play a game or two at the pub and thus the game of darts was born.

Since then, darts has become a very popular game and you will be hard pressed to not find a dartboard at any respectable bar or pub.  So it only seems fitting that if you are going to have a bar or game room in your home, that a dartboard be a part of it.

Now, there are different dartboards to choose from.  Standard darts played on a cork or bristle board, soft tip darts and electronic darts.  Electronic darts are played with soft tip darts but have a build in computer that keeps score and offers many more gaming options then a standard dartboard.

If you do decide to add a dartboard to your game room, bar or basement, you will surely want to get a dartboard cabinet to go with it.  Keep in mind though that not all dartboard cabinets are the same.  When looking to purchase a cabinet, there are a few things to consider.
* What kind of dartboard will I be getting?

All cork and bristle dartboards are the same diameter and so any cabinet designed for darts will work.  All electronic dartboards are not the same.   There are many different makes and models and each has a different measurement.  Choose your electronic dartboard first before looking at cabinets.  Knowing the dimensions of your electronic dartboard will be most helpful when picking out your dartboard cabinet.
* Will I be matching an furniture or decor?

Dartboard cabinets are made from many different kinds of wood and come in different colors and finishes.   This makes it easy to match your furniture or home decor.
* Do I have room for it on my wall?

If you have limited wall space or just prefer not to add any more holes in your wall, a stand alone dartboard cabinet may be just what the doctor order.  A stand alone cabinet also offers the versatility of letting you more it around or even putting it away when not in use.
* Does my game room or bar have a sports theme?

If your basement or bar has a sports team, there is probably a dartboard cabinet with your favorite teams name or logo.  If you are a fan of beer, there are even cabinets displaying your favorite brew.
* What else do I want my dartboard cabinet to do?

Not only do dartboard cabinets conceal the dartboard, they also have the added benefit of providing a space to store extra darts, flights, tips and shafts.  Some even come equipped with a build in scoreboard and a place to keep the chalk or dry erase marker.  If storage isn’t a consideration, there are cabinets that do nothing but house the dartboard.

As you can see, there are many consideration when choosing a dartboard cabinet so do your homework and enjoy many years of darting pleasure.  (I’m sure darting isn’t a word but it fits)

Enjoy

Dennis
